| DESIGN NAME: Polycom Real Presence Trio PRIMARY FUNCTION: Smart Conference Phone INSPIRATION: Good ideas can come from anywhere. The Polycom RealPresense Trio is designed to optimize user productivity and business efficiency by allowing every team member to have a voice in modern conference meetings. We worked closely with Polycom’s engineering and research teams to evolve the traditional three-legged conference room speaker system into a fully integrated smart hub with the ability to support the way people meet today. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: As the world’s first smart hub for group collaboration, Trio is the most versatile conference speakerphone in the world. A decade of research on user behavior, needs, and productivity informed the development and design of this multi-purpose conference solution. The Trio revolutionized the way teams share ideas by enabling every team member to clearly collaborate and communicate. With a pure form, the Trio aligns with timeless office architecture, integrating beauty into high functionality. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Simple and intuitive usability of the conference phone is critical. Many user scenarios were developed to create a design criteria. One scenario for example, was a first time user running into a meeting room just two minutes before a call and being able to initiate the meeting with complete ease. This resulted in substantial work on the UI. Another scenario was the ability for anyone within the room to mute a call quickly. This resulted in mute buttons being places in easy reach spots on the end of each leg, with LEDs that clearly displays the device's status. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The projects design development was a collaboration between specialist teams in Los Angeles California, San Jose California, Austin Texas, and Andover Massachusetts. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Trio goes beyond the simple aspirations of making a better conference phone. We scrupulously tuning the audio output and microphone pick up. The Trio is a smart hub capable of controlling all your meeting needs. It is layered with technologies to help drive these additional experiences, such as controlling a video call, sharing presentations, connecting numerous devices and services, and controlling the rooms lighting and temperature. Through the Android interface, additional Apps can be added to insure that the Trio meets the needs of meetings both today and tomorrow. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Product diemnsions, 360mm x 320mm x 70mm TAGS: smart hub, office speakerphone, speakerphone, business communication, smart conference phone, conference phone, polycom, communications RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The way people in business think, interact and work, requires constant innovation to stay competitive. Polycom set up a secret research unit to consider this area. The Real Presence Trio is one of a new range of products reinventing this space. Research dictated that nothing can replace face-to-face communication, and body language. This core aspect of communication led to the development of a 1080p30 USB camera that provides business-grade video and creates the equivalent of real-time connection that is critical for effective collaboration and closure. CHALLENGE: Prior to this product, the traditional three-legged speaker, while a fixture in every conference room, had not been updated to reflect the technological advances of the last decade. Thus, the classic models lacked the capacity to communicate with and integrate modern functionalities necessary for a productive conferencing environment. Our greatest challenge was curating the countless features we wanted to include in the device in an intuitive, user-friendly way, while keeping the design compact and simple, and the user interface intuitive and seamless.
