DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Cheer Popocorn

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Popcorn Package

INSPIRATION:
One day, I was in the movie theater with my friend, we decided to share a bag of popcorn. I realized how hard to know how much popcorn left inside, in a dark movie theater. That kind of situation made me feel a little awkward. This situation made me come up with this very convenient idea of designing "Cheer Popcorn".

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The "Cheer Popcorn" design, it is very useful, convenient and fun way of eating popcorn. It doesn't allow consumer's fingers to get dirty. Because it comes handy with a second structure and a golden ribbon that lets the consumer pull the inside pack, so then the consumer can finish eating popcorn without dirtying the hands. In addition, the front part of the package is transparent, so the consumer can actually see how much popcorn is left inside.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
1. Print and cut the striped paper. 2. Print and cut the black paper, then paste 1 over this. 3. Cut the transparent sheet. 4. Assemble 2 and 3 together. 5. Use the transparent sheet, cut and assemble an inside-cup. 6. Cut the golden ribbon and lace into 5 and hold on. 7. inside-cup put into the main package. 8. The other part of the golden ribbon lace out from the other side of the package ribbon hole. 9. Hold on the golden ribbon with plastic glue. 10. Close the lid and paste logo.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
From April to June 2016(3 months) at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Taipei, Taiwan.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Packaging Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Technology: I set this package as a high-quality popcorn package, therefore, I carefully designed it to mainly solve two problems: how not to get the fingers dirty? and how to know much popcorn is left inside? In this package, the ribbon is the one point of design and a key point of the structure because it allows the customers to pull up the inside package so there is no need to deep inside to grab some more popcorn. Materials: -Golden ribbon -Coated black paper -Transparent sheet

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
1. physical products size 2. non-physical design 3. physical ribbon length 4. non-physical ribbon length * physical ribbon length is un-pulled ribbon length. Large size for 3-5 people: 1. W 140mm x D 125mm x H 220mm 2. W 469.931mm x H 427.623mm 3. 320mm 4. 960mm Middle size for 2-3 people: 1. W 90mm x D 80mm x H 180mm 2. W 294.304mm x H 296.032mm 3. 250mm 4. 840mm Small size for 1-2 people: 1. W 88mm x D 74mm x H 160mm 2. W 258mm x H 260.5mm 3. 210mm 4. 720mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
First of all, I researched original high-class popcorn brands, such as "Garrett", "POP! gourmet popcorn", "KuKuRuZa popcorn", etc. And I researched on Pinterest or google by "popcorn" and "Package" keywords. While I researched on google about popcorn packages, I saw popcorn bags designed by CHANEL. Then I came up to make fashionable popcorn package as the high-class popcorn brands.

CHALLENGE:
Creative: Besides, the function of the package, it is explained in those next 3 examples: 1: Pull up the structure as the feeling when people eat a popcorn. 2: Popcorn after the pop looks like a blooming flower, so I put this image on the lid. 3: The stripes is the most popular popcorn package pattern, however, black and white look more fashionable. Challenge: The assembling part was the most challenging for me. Then I add the cutoff line to make sure everything is equally.
