PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Cut Resistant Glove

INSPIRATION:
Most cut resistant gloves use thick 13/10 gauge liners with steel fibre reinforcements which are heavy, stiff and lack flexibility, dexterity and precision. We wanted to offer a lightweight cut resistant glove using our 18g steel free technology engineered liner with an advanced hybrid coating to allow workers to be able to handle small sharp components in wet, dry and even oily conditions while remaining comfortable and secure

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Close fitting & lightweight seamless Cut Level 5 precision handling glove with a hybrid Polyurethane / Nitrile fusion palm dipped coating that provides phenomenal grip whilst protecting from cuts and slashes Extremly thin seamless 18 gauge knitted shell provides superior fit & the highest cut protection under CE EN388 Fusion PU/Nitrile palm coating provides secure handling of small/sharp wet/dry/oily components Reinforced Nitrile patch to thumb crotch for extra strength & longevity Velcro cuff

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The Obsidian gloves performs better as it is the thinnest gauge level 5 cut resistant glove available. Combined with it's hybrid coating it offers secure handling of small objects in both wet and dry conditions

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project was originally started in 2015 in Shanghai and was initially shown as a concept idea at A+A safety show in Dusseldorf October 2015. Due to tremendous interest the glove finally went into production late 2016

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Specially engineered glass fibres that are stronger and more stable than alternative mineral and steel fibres, combined with our unique formulation of technical high performance fibres are wrapped and knitted in the fabrication of Obsidian. This results in a light yet high mechanical strength glove with superior cut resistance characteristics, protection and durability without the stiffness and/or skin irritation associated with steel and mineral fibres

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
A unique formulation of Nitrile and Water Based Polyurethane fusion creates an extremely flexible yet durable coating enabling precision handling in wet, dry and even oily conditions.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Product was showcased on a global basis in 2016 at leading safety exhibitions to show industrial safety distributors, experts and end user customers the potential. Combined with in house production feedback from existing global clients.

CHALLENGE:
Difficult to get engineer the liner to achieve European CE cut level certification while maintaining it's lightweight 18 gauge construction.
