| DESIGN NAME: Jazz PRIMARY FUNCTION: Shower INSPIRATION: I found the inspiration for this project in an almost mystic experience while taking a bath and listening to jazz music at the same time. My experience was probably triggered by the music and the warmth of the water that I was in contact with, because my body and mind felt very relaxed at the time. I felt no difference between water and music. It was almost like I was floating on the sound of the trumpet that I was hearing. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Jazz is an artistic and lavish design project that aims to challenge our perception on how do we imagine a shower. Jazz is designed to be the artistic object that fulfils the looks of a modern bathroom space by creating an unique experience for the user through the shape of a trumpet which carries water instead of sound. Its ideal dimensions make it highly practical in every home even if the space is limited. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Jazz is controlled by two handles positioned on the right middle side of the "trumpet valves". The handles are marked with two discrete coloured dots, red and blue, the international symbols for hot and cold water. They are very close one to each other so one can easily control the water flow and temperature. Thanks to the hydrophobic treatment of the surface Jazz is very easy to clean and extremely safe to use. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in August 2016 in London and finished in February 2017 in London, and was exhibited at London Metropolitan University in February 2017. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: First step of the project was sketching the shape of the shower and finding the optimum size and the right internal mechanism that fits for its shape. After that, I started constructing the actual object using copper pipes. There were a couple of parts like the "trumpet bell" which I had to build out of clay and then cast in acrylic resin. The last stage of the process was to apply the copper wires on the whole object. I used the technique I developed and improved for the last five years. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 310mm x Depth 240mm x Height 1240mm TAGS: Jazz shower, contemporary shower, shower design, bathroom shower, luxury shower, Art Showers, trumpet shower. RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The aim of my project was to find new connections between artistic and functional objects by researching Art and Design. The purpose of my research over these two creative fields is to generate and produce interactive usable artworks as luxury products for modern interiors. My research methods imply setting overarching questions and meditation, in which I create and first try my ideas. On a social level I was happy to see that 95% of people who interacted with Jazz were fascinated and interested in this product. CHALLENGE: Playing creative games with objects or shapes and changing the functions from one to another helped me to break through outlooks and see beyond shapes and functions. The greatest challenge that I overcome was to design and create, by maintaining the highest precision and quality, the entire shape and mechanism without using a 3D printer. In therms of production, Jazz will be a limited edition of 50 items. NAME: ART SHOWERS PROFILE: Art Showers is a project by Vlad Mititelu which includes several hand crafted designs that alows the individual reflect his own personal style trough the objects that he buy and uses. Art Showers thakes part of a biger series of designs like, Art Lights and Art Furniture. The entire project is based on individuality and not on the usual standard. Vlad believes that it is time to be aware and support those people who feel and express themselves in a diferent way. |
