| DESIGN NAME: Monochrome PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bench INSPIRATION: Monochrome is a composite bench that is designed for contemporary spaces. The search for new areas of creative use of composite parts has inspired this product to emerge. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Suitable for both indoor and outdoor usage, its robust and dynamic design makes it ideal for waiting lounges and urban environments. Because of being stackable, it saves space and allows easy transportation and storage. Coming with a variety of colors, Monochrome composite bench uses least materials for a design that is more enhanced. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Monochrome bench requires less labor because it can be easily installed at the desired location. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was completed in 2017, Ankara, Turkey. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Monochrome is produced from stainless steel and extruded composite seating, it is a durable bench that is elegant and strong at the same time. Armrest is a single piece made of stainless steel. And it assembles to the L-shaped surface with screws. With the both armrests coming together, composite surfaces fixed on their places. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions: 2200 mm x 800 mm x 720 mm TAGS: Composite, Bench, Urban furniture, Street furniture, Outdoor RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Urban furnitures are heavy and bulky products due to the construction. These types of furniture are not heavy, but they are very difficult to transport. At the beginning of the design, we wanted to develop a product that would be portable, transport a lot of unassembled products in one go, and allow installation in the place where they should be positioned. We wanted to achieve lightness by using composite wood plates. We wanted to develop a product that would be resistant to outdoor conditions and shrinkage due to the composite part. CHALLENGE: It was challenging to make a design that would be easy to produce the armrest and the legs as a single solid piece.
