| DESIGN NAME: Azadi Tower PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring INSPIRATION: Before Iran revolution in late 70s called Shahyad tower and means memorial of King, which was the symbol of great gate of modern Iran in Tehran, designed by architect Hussein Amanat through a competition in 1966. There were many public protests around it during the revolution period that is why renamed to Azadi tower later, which means Freedom and becomes the symbol of Iranian Liberalism. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The significant of choosing this urban element for Wearable Architecture collection is not only for its smart architectural design, which contains different signs of historic, Islamic and contemporary Iranian architecture, but also for the symbolisation of the primary right of Freedom where public liberal movements demonstrated; the right, which is not deniable or inseparable for all human being in any civilisation, culture, religion or nationality; specially these days when we hear about making wall between countries! OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Simplicity as the most priority in design process made the object obviously easy and daily use. The exclusive design and uniqueness bring more pleasure and satisfaction. With such rich cultural background of object, the audience feels much more confidant and tries to acquire deeper realisation of his/her cultural achievements, current advantages and weaknesses at the same time. Emotionally point of view, these subjective challenges lead to a hidden bond between audience and article; it contributes vaster connection, which does not make sense by ordinary accessories or jewelries. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Project Started in July 2014 and finished in January 2017 in Tehran, Iran which is not exhibited before the A' design Award Competition. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Designing of Azadi tower ring tries to establish the deniable sense of Freedom, which is common between human by a rotational form which ties around the finger and emphasising on it as an inseparable sense from todays people while the meaning of Freedom and Liberalism has changed in globalisation period and has gone beyond the geographical borders. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Design with Matrix, Made by gold, Weight about 7.00 Grams, Blue Turquoise(Nacre, Agate) TAGS: Wearable Architecture, Azadi Tower, Azadi Tower Ring, Shahyad Tower Ring RESEARCH ABSTRACT: As an architect and individual interest in jewellery design, I tried to design a jewellery collection, which called Wearable Architecture inspired by Persian architectural artworks; taking into consideration different social, cultural or environmental subjects was my aim; Although all the constructions from palaces to urban elements are masterpieces architecturally point of view but only few of them considered as designing inspiration due to their architectural values; mostly chose to emphasise on a specific subjects as mentioned earlier. CHALLENGE: Through designing process of Wearable Architecture collection it was tried to make the pieces easy as much as possible not only to simplify delivering the main idea of design but also considering not complicated making process and keeping the industrial ability of production which make the collection definitely accessible to all who are interested in. Commitment and loyalty to the main artworks that were the inspiration resource of the collection was another challenging aspect of the design process while transformation of urban scale structure to a jewellery function and scale desired.
