| DESIGN NAME: Time Flowing in Folding PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence INSPIRATION: The most valuable work for the old space renovation is carefully reading the spatial context first, and then matching with the family's life ontology. The infinite imagination and possibility of the space will be created by the combination of the spatial form and the dramatic dialogue between light and shade. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The spatial main wall is full of the generous feature. The designer tries to respect the material texture for displaying the natural aesthetics with worn scratches in order to depict the owner's humble and steady philosophy in life. The composition of inclined geometries winding in the space can enlarge the vision effect of the TV wall in the living room. The figures of light are written on different material shapes, which is a metaphor to describe the owner's folded pages of life. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The balcony is intentionally designed by a horizontal grating window in order to induce daylight getting through. The daylight is laid on between floor and wall, which can reflect out a series of bars in between of black and white. As time flowing by in the moment of bright and dark, the shadows dynamically piled up can derive a series of dancing actions between light and shade. It is a moment full of sentiment. The owner can enjoy the time immersing into a plenty of books in front of the wooden bookcase. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in May 2015 in Taipei City, Taiwan. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The gray tiles with staggered collage which has the feeling of hand drawing strokes can create the metaphor of the owner's life stories; the maturity and stability is forged by the flowing ages. The warm wooden doors can reduce the rigid feeling. The form composition of the white varnish plates can become the doodling board for children. The children's smile can reflect the figures of all family members, and dig out the presence of spatial emotion and memories. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 140 square meters TAGS: Residence RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Every piece of brick from the thought of Louis I. Kahn was able to be infused with the spatial soul. Every stroke created by the spirit of light and shade can convey the Architectural poetry to describe the essence of material and space. In this kind of divine notion, the designer's design philosophy has been fostered by the spatial spirit profoundly. CHALLENGE: The book pages flipping sound is a kind of elegant melody flowing in the space, and this is just like the chatting moment with the sound made up by trees, leaves and wind outside the window. The composition of light, shade, space and material interacting with each other, can reflect the spatial atmosphere and be resonated with nature.
