| DESIGN NAME: Atto Verticale Masera PRIMARY FUNCTION: Mechanical Watch INSPIRATION: The watch is inspired by a different way to interpret an hand wound baguette movement: a traditional movement that is not an obsolete object, however high-end products on which to create a new kind of watch with an unconventional design. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Wrist watch with a mechanical hand wound movement assembled on an aluminum colored case. Classic and conteporary are the keywords of Atto Verticale watch: the classic movement matches with a fresh and colorful watch case and strap. In between two sapphire glasses the movement floats on the strap, matching with the shape and the colors of the case. The interchangeable strap is in two colors: the top strap follows the color of the inner ring, the back strap follows the case one. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Case, hands and strap are all original design and engineered by Masera Design. The hand wound baguette movement is an upgrade of the standard one: fitted with slip wind mechanism, ensures that the movement does’t get damaged if the crown is overwound. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2015. Design, engineering and production took around one year, within Hong Kong and China. The project was exhibited at Florence Design Week 2016, and launched in the Italian market in June 2016. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Anodized colored aluminum case without horn; two pieces construction where the caseback becomes inner ring; interchangeable NATO strap in leather or canvas; sapphire crystals top and bottom. The bottom sapphire crystal has a matte finishing made by laser, but in order to show the movement we leave its silhouette transparent on the crystal. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 42.00mm diameter; hand wound baguette movement, 20 jewels; last generation hand wound movement, fitted with slip wind mechanism, ensures that the movement does’t get demaged if the crown is overwound; functions: hours & minute; power reserve: 30 hours ; water resistant 3 ATM ; coloured sand brush aluminium case ; crown at 12 H ; sapphire crystal ; back screwed in open back with proof sapphire crystal ; nato bracelet: vintage leather or canvas ; stainless steel buckle sand brush finishing with logo ; hollow luminous hands ; 9 color versions: gray, orange, green, black, blue, red, rose gold, bronze, dark green TAGS: watch, mechanical hand wound movement, anodized colored aluminum, nato watch strap, unconventional, fashion RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design research starts from the discovery of an hand wound baguette movement made to afford a reasonable price mechanical watch. Given that usually this kind of movement are applied on classical and traditional watches, we decided to assemble it in a modern and fashion case, making a very different style of watch. CHALLENGE: The main challenge was to create a fashion watch with a powerful and distinctive personality through an unconventional design using a traditional movement. Colors match, unconventional shape, original construction, NATO bracelet and movement assembled in line with the crown at 12 H, was the starting points of the project. NAME: Atto Verticale by Masera Design PROFILE: Atto Verticale is the watch brand of Masera Design, a design studio that, after working for many years in the watch design industry, has developed its own idea of watch.The name of the brand is composed by two Italian words: “ATTO” and “VERTICALE”. Atto in Italian means “act” and describes the dynamism of this watch. Verticale means “vertical” and represents both the attitude to venture up and the main characteristic of this watch: the hand-wound baguette’s vertical movement. The sum of these two words is an invitation to experiment and discover the variety and uniqueness. |
