| DESIGN NAME: City Inn Chengdu Kuanzhai Alley PRIMARY FUNCTION: Hotel INSPIRATION: To make people see the history of this area, we let them to walk into the history. The hotel is transferred into a modern art gallery. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Photos and products of the old good times were displayed in the lobby as art work. Every room was decorated in monotone. Pictures on the wall are street views in black-and-white color, furniture in black, white or grey are in retro style. The room looks like a pop-up photo. If guests take photos in the room, they will find out they are the only colorful object in a black-and-white photo. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Photos and products of the old good times were displayed in the lobby as art work. Every room was decorated in monotone. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Because of the limited budget, there isn’t any high tech nor complicated technology. On the contrary, we choose the very basic way to make the big effort, ie., we use mirror effect to make the space look bigger; in the restaurant, there are floor-to-ceiling windows, sunlight comes in through the bamboo plants, which make it very Sichuan style. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The total area is 4742 sqm.When we decorate the objects of past, we don’t want people to see the worn part but the beautiful part of them. We display them as art pieces. City Inn Kuanzhai Alley is a modern are gallery of “Present and Past”. TAGS: hotel, interior design, modern art gallery, history, low budget RESEARCH ABSTRACT: City Inn are broadly located in China, the image of City Inn is clean and cozy, but not interesting. Now we gave City Inn Kuanzhai Ally a new look: modern and interesting. We would like to use social media to publicize the new image of City Inn. Thus we made a lot of scene to attract people to take photos to share on line while they are staying here. It is free and efficient advertisement, and that really helps City Inn to renew their image and get more attention. CHALLENGE: Low budget is a big challenge, also to make the subject “history” interesting rather than old is not an easy thing. We would like to create the modern atmosphere but to show the significance of history at the same time. Black-and-white toned background and furniture show the retro style, neat and sharp space brings a sense of contemporary and modern. NAME: Chu Chih-Kang Space Design Co., Ltd PROFILE: The name Chihkang Chu had been internationally renowned in year 2015. His works have been listed as indicator of design trend by main stream media in Europe. Meanwhile, he has won more than 10 most authoritative design awards from German, Japan, Hong Kong , America and Mainland China, which including German Design Award and ICONIC AWARDS issued by German Design Council. AD Magazine refers to him as one of the AD 10 0- Most Influential Design Elites in China, and his work Fangsuo Bookstore in Chengdu is rated as one of the world’s most beautiful bookstores by AD Magazine (international version). Chu and his works have been reported by magazines and media of more than 10 languages. In year 2016, he was invited by GAA (The GlobalArtAffairs Foundation) to display his new conceptual design "Mountains - Waters" in Parallel Show "Time Space Existence" of La Biennale di Venezia 2016. |
