| DESIGN NAME: Snow Drop PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lighting INSPIRATION: Gobo's creations are inspired by millennial researches of harmony and aesthetics, as for exemple in Feng Shui and the individual harmony of its environment. They're also guided by the golden ratio and sacred numbers which are the sources of beauty that are present in our nature and art. His passion for geometry reflects his works, inspired by scientists as Ron Resh and Richard Buckminster Fuller UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Snow Drop is a pendant and modular light fixture equipped with a white concrete spherical pulley system. Its refined geometric design made of golden brass rods evokes the elegant shape of a diamond. The vintage amber Edison bulb is inserted into an exclusive tetrahedral-shaped box made of opalescent white plexiglass which can be closed or opened. When closed, the box filters the light and may be precisely modulated with the smooth pulley system. When opened, the box blooms into 3 fractal triangles with the delicacy of a snowdrop, the three petaled flower which inspired the name for this light design. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Gobo creations are the result of constant research into finding the perfect equilibrium of lightweight materials with ideal proportions. They inspire a soothing sensation and sense of wellbeing. Snow Drop invokes in mind the purity and delicacy of a diamond or flower. You can play with the light intensity in order to dim the light to your preference. The warm colors of the bulbs filaments shine through the opalescent plexiglass box when closed. When opened, the design creates a shadow play of geometric shapes. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: I started the project in september 2016 I finished it in February 2017. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Materials: 3 X 3mm plexiglass triangles 18 X 3mm Brass tubes Nylon rope E27 brass sleeve 1.5 m twisted fabric electric cable Counterbalance (concrete) 3D on Rhino SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 800 mm x Depth 800 mm x 800 Height mm TAGS: Lighting, balance, elegant, modular, wellbeing, lightness, proportion, emotional, desire, modernity RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I started my research with several experiments in order to identify a design and chose to work with a tetrahedron, and created a system which would allow dimming the light through modulation. Then I had to select the best material to match the work of art (PMMA, brass, concrete). Finally, I chose an appropriate format to match standard spaces (ceiling height). CHALLENGE: Design a pulley system and a counterbalance which would allow the lighting to open and close in a smooth and harmonious way. Find flexible and strong enough materials in order to connect the different elements together. Create a concrete counterbalance from a mold. NAME: Gobo lighting PROFILE: 'GOBO' lights created by Nicolas Brevers are the results of a research for perfect proportions, harmony and balance. His designs are based on the golden ratio, source of beauty for centuries. They dress up the space with their atomic shapes and sublimate by their eternalness, modulating by projecting geometrical pure shadows. The lightings refer to the essence of natural elements by releasing a dimension of lightness and well-being. A formal language where functionality fuses with emotions. |
