X Shape Self Return Road

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Roadblock

INSPIRATION:
The existing road cone is very easy to be knocked down by people and vehicles to roll on a road during use. This will not only be likely to damage the road cone but also hinder the traffic order and affect the warning effect. Even though more weight is added to the base, such road cone will also be knocked down, causing more potential safety hazards. Thus, the road cone, which can stands up rapidly after being knocked down can alleviate this problem.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This is a roadblock, which can stand up self return and rapidly. The road cone can self return to the upright state by virtue of the low center of gravity and outside curve of base when it tilts or is overturned. It is made of waste tire rubber powder. And it is easy to made, integrated molding. It not only improves the safety in traffic but also is easy to be transported because of its hollow structure.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Design a proper structure principle for the road cone, including the center of gravity place and arch shape base edge, so that the road cone can steadily stand on the road. It can stand up rapidly by virtue of its own center of gravity and arch once it was knocked down. With the hollow structure, many road cones can be overlapped for transportation.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in summer 2015 in Wenzhou, and finished in summer 2016 in Wenzhou.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
With the ordinary barrel structure, the road cones used in the existing road traffic are likely to be blown down by a strong wind. With reinforcement and weight added, they are also easy to be knocked down and need to be relocated by people after falling to the ground. This is very troublesome and even causes a life danger, especially at night. However, the self return reset road cone can improve this condition.

CHALLENGE:
It is rather difficult to find a proper center of gravity and it is also difficult to design a reasonable outside curve. Proper weight distribution and curve design can help the road cone to stand up rapidly after being knocked down. For this purpose, we have tried to make a lot of models.

PROFILE:
Wenzhou Vocational & Technical College is a full-time comprehensive vocational institute established by the amalgamation of four national and provincial level key technical secondary schools, Wenzhou Business School, Wenzhou Economy School, Wenzhou Machinery Industry School, and Wenzhou Amateur Technology University in 1999 after being approved by the Ministry. With a schooling history tracing back to the year of 1965, the college was founded by Wenzhou Municipal People’s Government and managed by the Department of Education of Zhejiang Province. So far it has been awarded as National Model Vocational College, National Advanced Unit for Vocational Education, Zhejiang Provincial Civilization Unit, one of the first Modern Apprenticeship Pilot Units Approved by Ministry of Education, and one of the first Zhejiang Provincial Four-year Schooling Talent Cultivation Pilot Colleges for Higher Vocational Education.
