| DESIGN NAME: Sense PRIMARY FUNCTION: Urban Sensor INSPIRATION: Urban security cameras are usually pretty bulky devices with stiff lines, that you pass by without noticing. Sense is designed to revolutionize this concept, it is designed to be noticed by the citizens, to be recognized as a source of services. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Sense is a sensor designed with a friendly and linear shape in order to be easily integrated into the urban architecture. Thanks to its extended artificial intelligence algorithms, it can promptly detect a wide set of dangerous events such as fire & smoke, left objects, also detecting the face and indentificating the vehicle's plate. Furthermore it can assure the highest level of protection against suspicious and dangerous events by monitoring crowded areas in public places. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Sense is installed upon streetlights and in highly trafficated locations, such as shopping centers, habours, airports and train stations. The rear connector installation makes it possible to easily align the optic to the ground. Maintenance of optical parts, infrared emitter and the replacement of the SIM can be done without removing the sensor from its position. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Sense, a new version of the SmartEye sensor, was developed early 2016 for the European market. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The use of a parametric 3D modeling software was essential for the realization of the Sense. That is how we were able to modify the details of the device on the basis of study models following the dimensional needs in order to allocate the electronic components. The prototype has been realized by the Selective Laser Sintering technique and subsequently engineered for the injection molding of polycarbonate. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Material: 2,5mm polycarbonate. Dimension: 250 mm (W), 93 mm (D), 120 mm (H). TAGS: Sensor, Security, Urban, Smart, City, Light, Street, energy RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design research for Sense begins with the analysis of the outdoor sensors currently on the market. The goal was to make a sensor for city environmental analysis that could be effortlessly integrated into a smart city-environment. An important aspect of the project is for the sensor to be recognizable by people passing by as the symbol of an active service designed for their safety. It is through this process that we achieved a unique aesthetics and new installation possibilities. CHALLENGE: We took on many challenges such as providing a system that would allow the use of a wide range of optics for the sensor, we had to achieve a passive heatsink that had to be protected from atmospheric agents and again we had to use a limited number of shells to optimize the costs in the production phases. Furthermore particular attention was paid in the realization of a rear connector which allows the sensor to be positioned along the three axes of freedom.
