Letter opener

INSPIRATION:
All start with thankful. My dad brings me up very hard. I want to express my gratitude to him and his occupation. Then I realize there has many similar emotions around the world. And keep remember their work.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
A series of letter openers that reflects occupations: Memento is not just a set of tools but also a series of objects that expresses the user’s gratitude and feelings. Through product semantics and simple images of different professions, the designs and the unique ways each Memento piece is used give the user various heartfelt experiences. process. Each one all have different open way. From how it looks to how you use, all can give you deep touching. They are not only a kind of tool, but a set of symbolic keepsake. It connects the image and experience of occupation.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
1.When using the blade of the Wrench Memento to open the envelope, the gesture of turning fasteners is naturally incorporated. 2.When using the Chisel Memento, the user is required to apply several cuts to open the envelope as a craftsman makes multiple strokes to shape their creation. 3.The appendage of the Barber Shear Memento allows for a comfortable grip as it supports the user’s finger when the letter open is held the way a hairdressers holds barber shears. 4.The Masonry Trowel Memento allows the user to slide open the envelope with a gesture of applying concrete layers. 5.The Garden Trowel Memento opens the envelope with the user’s digging gesture. 6.The French Curve Memento comprises different curves in its design. 7.The Protractor Memento’s geometric design signifies sensibility. 8.The Needle Memento allows the user to easily and precisely slide open the envelope.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in October 2014 in Taipei and finished in March 2015 , It was exhibited in Yodex(March 2015), Taiwan designers week (October 2015), Golden pin exhibition (December 2015)

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Let the public connect each letter opener with the occupations they represent and balance abstract and concrete. Because the knowledge to the characteristics can be different due to different life experiences, I have to find the cognition overlapping parts of those universal definitions of every occupation, and also exclude the parts that can be too different to prevent some workers can’t feel resonated.

CHALLENGE:
Let the public connect each letter opener with the occupations they represent and balance abstract and concrete. Transfer the work experience to using process.
