| DESIGN NAME: Pulse PRIMARY FUNCTION: Foosball table INSPIRATION: One of the remarkable features of the studio is the playful in the forms through unexpected inspiration, and the functionality of the parts. So, nothing better than combining all the fun and leisure. The Brazilian passion once again in evidence. With the uniqueness and lightness of the materials that they provide, play football becomes a unique experience. The most important aspect that inspired the studio was the architecture of Pulse Health & Fitness Gym, home of this foosball. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The foosball table is a popular entertainment product that makes people enjoy playing a scaled football game, controlling the players with revolving rods, the differential of the Pulse is the use of acrylic, an innovative material for that kind of product, special with a modern and striking design. All components, including the puppets and the handles have been redesigned according to the project concept. The product is designed for indoor use that allow joyful interaction to the users. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Combined design and functionality is the element of this project. Since it was designed for a extremely modern Gym, any conventional foosball table wouldn't fit the standards. The biggest challenge was put in the real world a piece that is strong enough even though it looks so dedicated. First was tried to use only acrylic and wood, however as the time pass was seen a need of glass at the bases, to avoid any problems concerning the ball rolling. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: the project started in january 2015 in Natal and finished in may 2015 in Minas Gerais, and was exhibited in Fuori Salone 2015, at BRAZIL SA and MADE SP 2015. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Designed and assembled with certificated TECA (TEAK) wood, that due to the great demand, especially for shipbuilding, is located among the favorite woods for reforestation, lying crops around the world, including Brazil, and makes easier to industrialize everywhere. Acrylic, glass and metal, make Pulse foosball a unique experience in all aspects. Every single part have been studied and designed, from the wooden dolls turned to goals in molded acrylic. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 119cm Width x 158cm Depth x 93cm Height 35kg Weight TAGS: fossball, wood, acrylic, glass, toy, game, furniture, design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To bring Pulse to life, a team of several experts in materials and developments was created. The most difficult part was to keep the "legs" strong to hold the players movement no matter what. The success was achieved with a combination of methods and materials and a lot of molds. CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was to redesign completely an so common game. The studio has kept fixed in mind the idea of acrylic and wood. However to combine both of them demand a lot of investigation, concerning the durability, the "stress" movement of the game and all the aspects related to the interaction. NAME: MULA PRETA PROFILE: Mula Preta is a product design studio based in Natal/Brazil. It was founded in 2012 by the architect Felipe Bezerra and the designer André Gurgel. The name is inspired on a famous song that represents Brazilian Northeast’s culture, one of the keys of their design expressions. They were invited to participate in exhibitions in China, Paris and Milan, where were rewarded several awards. |
