| DESIGN NAME: Febris PRIMARY FUNCTION: Locator for Kids INSPIRATION: Children are the most precious wealth for all the parents. Parents devote all their lives to make them happy and decent persons. However, children sometimes encounter some unfortunate things during their childhood. These things may affect their psychology such that they never forget throughout their entire life. For example, being lost, which generally results in permanent psychological disorders in their remaining life, is one of such circumstances. Hence, we designed Febris to keep them close anywhere anytime. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Febris is a kind of smart watch designed for children between 4 to 12 ages. It functions as wearable phone and locator for the kids who are not mature enough to use regular smart phones. Febris includes GSM/GPRS module for voice or data communication and GPS module for tracking functionality. Febris accommodates presence detection and body temperature measurement sensors on it. Parents are informed through Febris mobile app if the watch is taken out or any abnormalities on kid’s body temperature are observed. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Operation: 1. Febris comes with different sweet colors, choose one 2. Download Febris mobile app for your IOS or Android device 3. Register with your personal information using Febris App 3. Insert SIM Card into SIM socket of Febris device and press the power button for a few seconds to open the device 4. Go to add new Febris section from the mobile app and then enter the child name and SIM number of Febris device 5. A QR Code will appear on the display of Febris, scan the code through the Febris app and activation is completed 6. Configure settings of Febris device. These settings are listed as follows: ●Defining safe zone if needed. If the child lefts the safe zone, parents will be alerted through Febris App ●Entering the names and phone numbers that the child can call whenever he/she wants. These names and phone numbers are automatically loaded to phonebook of Febris device. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2015 and the first prototype will be ready in June 2016. The location is METU / TECHNOPOLIS Ankara, Turkey. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Product body will be produced by double injection moulding process. Coloured parts of device will be made of TPE and the other parts will be made of PP. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Body Dimensions: 65mm x 40mm x 16mm Package Dimensions: 65mm x 50mm x 50mm TAGS: Febris, Smart watch, Wearable phone, Kid locator, GPS kid watch RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The aim of this project was improving the experience of communication between kids and parents. Providing both phone and location services was an advantage to make difference. Market research showed that the product should be simple and elegant to take a significant share. CHALLENGE: Designing a wearable device for kids was a challenging process. The functions should be easily controlled by kids and also the watch should not disturb kids while wearing. We tried keep it simple as possible in order to prevent misuses.
