| DESIGN NAME: Favorit Bikes PRIMARY FUNCTION: Retro Bike INSPIRATION: It was a big challenge to design bicycles and accessories for Favorit, not only because of the history and heritage of the brand. Many years had passed since the most glorious times of Favorit bicycles and during those years, the technological demands of clients have radically changed. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In my view, there is no difference between a recreational rider, a sporting or a genuine racer, everyone ought to receive the best. As the manufacturers, I voluntarily chose to carry the responsibility of choosing single elements of the bicycle and not to transfer the issue to the customer. Favorite strive to offer perfect bicycles for their owners to ride, not to endlessly adjust, modify or fix. Therefore, all the technologies used on Favorit bicycles are chosen and tested with high regard to reliability, low maintenance, simple manipulation, light weight and elegance. All three series have uniform level of equipment and price. The customer can then select a model of bicycle with preferred riding position or a way of using it. Not only is it possible to choose the colour, superlight carbon or classic steel frame, but it is also possible to decide between a modern electronic or traditional mechanical shifting gears. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: We use new materials, new manufacturing technologies and every part of this bike was specially tailored. We maintain unique visits retro design, but the technology of what this bike is made up, is entirely new. We can mention several technological innovations, such as using the belt instead of the chain. Belt is lighter, t has up to ten times longer product life, there is no need to lube it and get dirty from it, it never corrodes or falls, it also never breaks and does not require daily maintenance. We are using tires that have a multistage protection against defect. In case of penetration of the sheath, the inner layer is coated with a special gel which seals the hole immediately. Clean design of Favorit bicycles is reached by concealed Bowden transmission, brake hydraulic system of cables and electronics. For riders, this means less risk of defects caused by falling (off) of the bicycle. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The common character is a motto “design, reliability and no maintenance”. Almost all components are made and developed by producer. The wheels have simple pipe frame from ultralight carbon fibre and it contrasts with technical details which have organic design, integrated lighting, belt instead of chain and mono-varnished painting. Whole product is designed as a compact unit included fork, stem, bracket saddles, lights. Thus, there is no need to purchase other standard components. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: We adjust both types of frames to fit a specific geometry of the rider. The resulting weight as well as other parameters are therefore always different. TAGS: Retro, Bike, Inovation, Creativity, Legacy RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Before the initiation of the design work, I received detailed information about the current possibilities of production of ultra-light carbon materials, special alloys of aluminium and magnesium as well as high-strength stainless steels. It was also essential to study the history and original manufacturing processes of the brand. I have devoted much attention to exploring the expressive elements of those historic bicycles, including reading through all the available literature regarding this matter. From original magazines, books and photographs, I chose elements which later influenced my thinking when developing a new design. The first trial was marked by a combinations of classic tube frame design with modern shapes and organic components, so that the lines of the bicycles stayed clean and as simple as possible. In addition to the frame, I was able to design own unusually shaped stems, seat posts and handlebars. These correlated with the character of each individual bicycle, but also held the unifying line across the product spectrum. During both the designing and development process, it was crucial to link the two, at first sight irreconcilable, worlds. The traditional one, in the form of a tubular frame, rams, leather seats and leather handles, and the innovative one, in the form f the ultra-modern carbon belt drive, integrated gearbox and disc brakes. The substantial thing was a harmonious combination of „ the time-tested“ and „the most modern and by all means best that the market offers“. The keystone of the entire bicycle is a tube with a circular cross-section. This is a simple, yet very powerful element, which can be found in many parts of the bicycle. I freed the iconic tubular frame of any futilities and decorating. The individual frames differ in riding positions, geometry and colour. Functionally, however, they are entirely identical. The sportiest model BIG BOSS has sharper geometry, based on the racing history of the brand. This particular model, most of all, coincides with the original Favorit with the classic rams.Two more comfortable models (AVIATOR and DIAMANTE) are a pleasant adding to the new product offerings of the Favorit brand. They are designed with respect to a more commodious riding position and an easy way of getting on the bicycle. All frame share common unifying elements such as a hard-coded saddle pipe, whose length is customized in order to suit the customer. In the past, Favorit developed and produced very original stems and seat posts, which were ahead of their time (e.g. a cast aluminium stem pressed onto the pipe can be considered the forerunner of today’s curtain-type connection AHEAD).Organic shapes of the stem as well as the parts below the saddle of new Favorites are formed into a sort of small statues with distinctive original stylistic elements. Their role is to make special austere, yet nowadays very popular retro design of the bicycles. These parts, along with handlebars, express some tension, dynamism and elegance. Even so, each of the parts has its aesthetic value to themselves.ntegratio CHALLENGE: It was a big challenge to design bicycles and accessories for Favorit, not only because of the history and heritage of the brand. At the beginning, when we defined the future direction of Favorit, we set ourselves a goal to produce bicycles that are beautiful, reliable, maintenance-free, lightweight and easy to use. In cooperation with experts and former employees, he restored the original production of Favorit bicycles in the Czech Republic between the years 2012 and 2014. He presents a new collection that continues the original tradition of high-end, handcrafted bicycles, but also fulfils demanding criteria of our time. |
