| DESIGN NAME: Grand Mesa PRIMARY FUNCTION: Executive Desk INSPIRATION: Grand Mesas was inspired by iconic mid-century modern furniture design in as much as it was inspired by monumental natural wonders - the largest flat-topped mountain in the world, hence the name for this desk. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Our state of mind is closely influenced by our surroundings. Grand Mesa offers a workspace that is easy on the eyes due to its clean and confusion-free form. All for the improved creativeness. This desk features a two-toned design highlighted by handpicked oak tripod legs, and infuses the interior with the character of mid-century modernism. Like its namesake - the largest flat-topped mountain - Grand Mesa firmly strikes a root in the interior designating the place where productivity resides. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The design of Grand Mesa allows its users the appreciation of contrast: massive top body accompanied by slim and elegant tripod legs. It simultaneously appears immovable and moving, an item of furniture at first glance, and something other at the second. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Desk design was developed and first prototype manufactured over a course of a year, staring in 2015 and reaching a completion in early 2016. The main material for the body of Grand Mesa - oak wood - comes from the lush Lithuanian forests, while manufacturing takes place in the center of industrial city Kaunas. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Grand mesa is created in line with traditions: the same way as furniture was built in old times. We use solid wood board and solid wood legs. Moreover we complement traditions with the present day technology, e.g. by employing Blum rails for push up drawers we skip the handles to achieve clean design. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 1800 mm x 600 mm x 750 mm TAGS: home desk, executive desk, solid, immovable, tripod legs, oak desk, large desk, ecological desk RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: Challenge: a workspace which appears reliable but also elegant, in other words where contrasts collide. Solution: desk top appears solid and immovable – a secure place for creation and contemplation, while its tripod legs grant the sensation of elegance – a slender companion in your interior.
