| DESIGN NAME: Ta'or box PRIMARY FUNCTION: Premium wooden drawer INSPIRATION: Thinking out of the box, we came up with a question for our customers: can an industrially manufactered wooden box be as good as a handmade one, or even better? We designed a slim line premium wooden drawer with uncompromising quality, with an infinite variety of dimensions, materials and colours. Smoothly run by our long-time partner Blum and easy to install. It always fits in the cupboard, assembled toolfree in 60 seconds. It gives our clients more time for the important things in life. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: We designed a wooden drawer that combines a high ambition for design and uncompromising quality, with an endless freedom to choose colours, materials, dimensions. Manufactured in only three days,assembled in 60 seconds. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: As high quality as the TA'OR BOX may look, processing is actually quite simple: in just 60 seconds, the drawer can be assembled without tools. A revolutionary principle that is setting an entirely new standard for assembling premium wooden drawers. A patented method is used for assembly, whereby the components can be put together without any joints. The fronts are all secured and the connections are made without the need for tools, with patented components from Blum. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2012 in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium. The first design was completed in 2014. The second generation with an innovative technology was released in August 2015. In October 2015 we started our international release for the European market. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The TA'OR BOX opens up completely new design possibilities: the drawer is available in three different types of real veneer, in black, grey or white and in three varieties of wood decor. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: TA'OR BOX is available in five different heights and the nominal lengths 250 to 750 mm, which are the norm for furniture building. Any desired width between 250 and 1,200 mm can be manufactured, millimetre-perfect. TAGS: Wood, Drawer, Click furniture, Veneer, Blum RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In 2011 we asked our B2B clients in Benelux how they produced a wooden drawer system for their customer, for what price and how long they worked on producing a single drawer. At Van Hoecke, we already have the knowledge for pre-assembling steel Blum drawers for kitchens, but we were wondering how this worked at the wooden box site. The answers were stunning, our clients worked often with used materials, spent in total a half day for making a box and prices went up to 300€ for one drawer. Our idea was born. CHALLENGE: The design of the TA'OR BOX is distinct due to its straight lines: sharp edges, perfectly straight sides, a width of just 13 mm and all components cut accurately to within 1/100 mm - all the result of an extremely precise production process. This was our first challenge which we succeeded by installing high-end customised machinery from experts in Italy and Germany. The second challenge was how to ship a pre-assembled drawer eco-friendly. Thanks to the innovative approach of our Swedish partner(Välinge), we reached the next goal: we sliced the bottom into pieces, ready to be assembled in 60 seconds at our customer'side. Our premium wooden drawer was ready to be produced custom made in 72hours and shipped in a flatpack all over Europe. NAME: TA'OR PROFILE: The Belgian family company Van Hoecke has been a Blum-partner to the furniture industry and traditional producers in the Benelux since 1967. Since 2012, the company started producing its own wooden drawer systems(TA’OR BOX) for the European market. Thanks to its highly motivated management, 200 enthusiastic production and logistics employees and ongoing investments in technology and automation, the company has grown each and every year, not least as a result of its positive export experiences throughout Europe. |
