| DESIGN NAME: Glasses Plus PRIMARY FUNCTION: Interchangeable Cover Frame INSPIRATION: Personally, I own four pairs of glasses and only one pair is equipped with shortsighted lenses, the rest of them I bought them for their appealing appearance. The frame of the glasses is not always costly, but the lenses do, and the packaging of the glasses is space consuming. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Glasses Plus is designed for people who regard each single accessory, for example, glasses as one important segment of their dressing style. Instead of purchasing as many as pairs, they only need to buy one base frame with the lens and other interchangeable cover frames which can be customized and attached to the base frame by magnets. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Nowadays, glasses are not only with the function of vision correction but also a personalized symbol especially for the fashion conscious people. It is common to see people with at least three pairs of glasses while only one of them they use quite often, due to inappropriate occasion, their preference to a certain color, shape or material. It is not difficult to choose the perfect shape or size of glasses frame for one’s face but to choose one’s favorite pattern and material is always a headache. Considering the high cost of the lens, the purchasing decision is not easy to make. While Glasses Plus provide an innovative solution where people can buy many pairs of glasses with a single pair’s price. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in October 2015 in Ningbo and finished in December 2015 in Shanghai. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The materials of the Glass Plus are plastic. Form the manufacturing kind of view, it saves material and production cost since the cover frame can be made by one single step of injection moulding and painted afterwards. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 140mm x thickness 4mm TAGS: Frame design, modular design, changeable, fashion eye wear, cost saving design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The pair I wear all the time is the one with a normal black in color and the shape fits me well. However, sometimes I got bored with that pair of glasses and some worn off in the coating occurred due to the frequent using. Then we came up with the idea that a pair of glasses can actually be changed with its appearance so that one does not need to pay additional money for the lenses and also space saving. CHALLENGE: The Glasses Plus is designed for people who regard each single accessory, for example, glasses as one important segment of their dressing style.
