| DESIGN NAME: Blinky. Clyde. Inky. Pinky. PRIMARY FUNCTION: Family of Home Pedal Dustbins INSPIRATION: Pac-Man game. Using the Pac-Man monster as a metaphor that feeds on rubbish. In addition, the dustbin has an in-built bin liner roll-dispenser that allows efficient and clean removal of waste which was inspired by the roll of plastic bags found in the fresh food sections in shopping marts. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The pedal bin design changes the perception of dustbins at home from something that is boring and to be hidden, to something that can be shown off in the house. In addition, the dustbin has an in-built bin liner roll-dispenser that allows efficient and clean removal of waste. The external cover of the dustbin is inter-changeable thus allowing the user to customize it to any color or designs. Example: Cartoon character for the kids room to plain color to match the interiors of the room. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: A dustbin, which people will treat it like a BEING and show it off, rather than just an unwanted thing that is hidden in the corner of the room. With the help of an in-built bin liner roll-dispenser the user does not have to touch the bin, thus ensuring clean and efficient removal of waste. Overall it allows the dustbin to be considered as a Home decor & Furnishing product. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The different parts of the bin will be made using various plastic processing methods such as Blow and injection moulding. Materials used: High-gloss and matte finish stain-free plastic. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Diameter 400 mm x Height 560 mm TAGS: Pac-Man, Pedal dustbin, Pac-Man monster, in-built bin liner roll-dispenser RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Observational study to find out how people interact and behave when they use a bin. Dustbins are always regarded as something of an eyesore because they are dirty and smelly. It is also hard to remove trash in an easy and clean way and also you can see waste that is already in the bin – an unpleasant sight. Thus, the aim is to use an efficient and effective method of waste disposal while at the same time changing the image of a dustbin from something that is hidden to something that is shown off as a Home decor & Furnishing product. CHALLENGE: Finding an appropriate inspiration and metaphor that is commonly recognized and can be related by people so as to change the perception people have about dustbins at home.
