DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Abierto Suite

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Hospitality.

INSPIRATION:
The inspiration came in the form of the solution to the brief, a strong but light structure permeable to heat, wind & people sights.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Abierto Suite has an elegant form to it´s function of having a few privileged ones with special perks on an event without losing the chance of see and be seen, being fresh at 35 celsius degrees at daytime. It´s easily assembled and dismantled and has a budget under $50,000 USD.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
the Abierto Suite was a bar operated by an 8 members team , serving complimenatary drinks and food to VIP assistants to the WTA championship Abierto Mexicano de Tenis. people assists from 4 pm to 1 am during the tournament, mostly in the breaks between matches and in the end.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project was designed thru 2014 and made real at the beggining of 2015 in Acapulco City in Mexico, during a week in operation form the 23 to the 28 of February.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The Abierto Suite was made totally in solid banak wood. It was totally hand built by our in-house carpenters team in a three weeks term. Made under a 50,000 USD budget. The tables in three different sizes and the coaches were also made by the same team simultaneously, only the stools and chairs had been bought at a local store. the plants were locally sourced in the Acapulco bay area by small producers.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The complete Banak wood stand measured 6,90 meters width by 10,40 meters length ( 9 meters correspond to public space and the restart 1,40 mts was the storage and preparation area) and 3 mts height. it was lighted by in-house made pin beam light fixtures and a 10 watts incandescent bulb in every rhombus with brand on it and in every one in the counter bar. a sports net delimited the ceiling in order to get a sense of limits. The place was also provided with a 4 industrial quality fans forming a perfect air cooling system.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The research for this project was varied, from books to magazines and internet but it was mainly a form follow function case, due to the hot and humid weather in Acapulco (MX), the permeability of elements including human sight, and the need of a strong structure due to strong winds in the area. the whole structure was divided in minor panels whose assemblage could be possible in 1 day, giving time to complete all the other services. The design passed all test by in house and external colleagues and clients alike, before going in production.

CHALLENGE:
The hardest part was the design itself having to fulfill al the requirements in the brief. the place need to be open but private at the same time, and being a close structure letting see through, and being in a 30 degrees celsius average temperature be cool. in the other hand need to beat down al the previous designs of the same hospitality, and be the most appealing stand in the event.
