| DESIGN NAME: Add PRIMARY FUNCTION: Magazine Holder INSPIRATION: The proposal of this design is inspired by the lightness of the line, the proportion and the importance of each detail. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: “Add” is a decorative and functional magazine holder thought for both the residence and work space. It is a light and easy to displace accessory , where you can hang photographs, notes, books, magazines, headphones and trendy accesories like scarfs, gloves and sunglasses among others. This piece of furniture is designed with a simple metallic structure and a wooden solid base. This minimalistic magazine holder is designed to be supported on a wall, so that objects can be stored vertically, optimizing the space used. It also includes a metallic accessory joined to the wooden base. This allows the structure to balance itself and be placed in the most adequate place. Is a multifunctional piece of furniture thought for everybody. From Kids to teenagers or adults. It can be used to store books, games, drawings, magazines, photograpghs, newspapers, or any other objects that need to be accessible. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The magazine holder is weightless and and can be easily handled. Is easy to place by vertically leaning on a Wall. In case the piece has to be placed anywhere else, the design incorporates an extra accessory, allowing the structure to self-sustain. It is fully customizable, as it can be used to store a big variety of objects, like books, photograps, magazines, etc. and as an original displayer. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The idea was developed in a month time. The prototype was handmade manufactured in two days (February 2015) in Madrid, Spain. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The main structure is made from iron rods and the manufacturing technique used is cutting, bending, welding and painting. The base is made out of solid wood with bores and grooves on the sides to hold the metallic structure. It can also be added in the bottom base two holes for incorporating a metallic fitting to maintain balance in the structure. The wood is finished with matt black paint and varnish. The line creates the design and makes the details of each element blend, aplying resistant materials. Permitting each customer to completely cuztomize the piece. CHALLENGE: The challenging concept was to create a new magazine holder design which would contribute to its value though the structure, the initial function and the use of materials. NAME: Alvaro Diaz Hernandez PROFILE: Alvaro Díaz Hernández is an interior designer, currently studying Industrial design, specialized in furniture design in Madrid, Spain. His biggest interests are architecture, photography, art and design. Despite his 22 years of age, he has developed his own e-commerce site and a personal website where interior design, product design, paintings, graphic design, photography and furniture design proyects are displayed. He is actually working as a freelance for several clients and soon two furniture design projects are going to be commercialized for a new furniture Company (Nyova). The design proposals punctualize minimalism, where simplicity, functionality and attention to detail are key characteristics. |
