| DESIGN NAME: Caroline Heater - Kindle Living PRIMARY FUNCTION: Natural Gas Patio Heater INSPIRATION: To elevate a vastly popular yet uninspired, purely functional, object by introducing a clean design aesthetic where non existed before. To create a "Cinderella&quo UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Caroline evokes emotion, bringing style and glamour, ambiance and inspiration, rhythm and scale, with unrivaled heating performance and craftsmanship in keeping you warm outdoors. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: - Beautiful design and construction - Vastly improved heating performance - Simple assembly and economical operation with push button electric start - Materials that are handsome, durable, sustainable, and require minimum maintenance - Uncompromising commercial grade build - Handcrafted in California by master craftsmen - Subscribing to environmental ideals - Multiple Patents PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Initial 18 months of research and ideation, with utility and design patents filled on August of 2008. Testing took the better part of 2-1/2 years, with the first Kindle Living Heater (now Allison) being introduced at the end of 2010. We continue to expanded our range of products, and after a further 2-1/2 years of development we proudly introduced Caroline in 2013. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Good looks aside, its design results in a more efficient heating canopy. The shade captures heat, redirecting it downward in a highly effective / chimney-like fashion, enveloping guests with glowing warmth. Uneven burner flame or pilot relighting caused by the slightest breeze is mitigated as the shade shields the heater’s engine from the elements. Caroline is made from materials that are at once handsome, durable, easy to clean, friendly to the environment, and proudly handcrafted in Southern California. Despite their broad use worldwide, little meaningful development has taken place in over 50 years except for making heaters cheap and virtually disposable. New materials, manufacturing techniques, and design applications had to be adapted or invented, all while adhering to strict government regulations and subscribing to "green" manufacturing standards. Multiple worldwide patents confirmed our vision. CHALLENGE: Overcoming the aesthetic and mechanical shortcomings of the traditional, "mushroom" type, patio heater while meeting the stringent, overly complicated, and varied governmental regulations. This process required that new materials and manufacturing techniques be created or adapted. For example, our patented Firewall shade liner can withstand burst of heat in excess of 1000C while effectively reflecting the infrared energy in a manner that greatly improves user comfort and performance.
