| DESIGN NAME: Ring PRIMARY FUNCTION: Table Lamp INSPIRATION: Its circular and symmetrical form resembled a headphone. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Recycled materials, that were once used for many different industries, were given new shapes and combined together to give light.Our design emerged as a reaction to natural resources being depleted by the never-ending need of technology. The wooden parts of the design reflects the nature and tradition while the two twisted metal parts represent time. The metal cage, that these metals parts merge into, is used to remind us how technology traps the world and thus humanity like a bird in a cage. Nevertheless, the design also gives hope to humanity that all is not lost by implementing a light inside this cage. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The form and use of warm materials improve the work environment by giving a sense of nature. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in June 2014 in Istanbul and finished in July in Istanbul FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Lighting Products and Fixtures Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Materials that were once a part of an industrial object were shaped into new forms. NAME: barrier studio PROFILE: the story always need a space and the space is created by the light. So, if there is no light, there is no space, there is no story. At barrier, we are searching for the connection between the light and the story. We collect different objects designed for different purposes, used in different spaces by different people in the past. We redesign them, we reinvent them. We make them alive once again to create light, to create new spaces, to create new stories. Our intention is not creating only a design object which gives light. We are trying to combine different segments of history, different memories, good or bad things with the harmony created by the light. We appreciate the aesthetics of the past. We want to be a part of the aesthetics of the future. At barrier, we are creating living spaces with living objects of light. We are working to be a part of aesthetics in history. |
