DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Stop & Go

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Commuter Fixtures

INSPIRATION:
Oh behave. Everyday we urbanites and commuters subconsciously take over the city and arrogate space and fixtures, to rest, read, snack, or talk to someone somewhere else. Going on with our lives, we naturally make the artificial environment ours, and take over built environments through our behaviour.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Inspired by countless thoughtless acts, the Stop & Go commuter fixtures pop out of walls on subway train platforms and other transient spaces to accommodate city users' temporary activities. As the irregular compositions of fixture sets integrate into the urban rhythm, they allow users to naturally engage with artificial space. Facilitating the sharing of public space while addressing the demand for privacy in crowded places, they support seamless commuting experiences.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The series of screens, seats, shelves, foot rests, perches, and semi-private zones stimulate thoughtless engagement with space by proposing familiar cues. Besides, the installed heights are important for commuters to perceive without thought. 1) Shadow zone - Commuter subconsciously define it as semi-private zone 2) Screen- Different sizes of screens provide different level of privacy 3) Seat - A recess for commuter safely place their belongings (e.g. luggage, bags..) 4) Shelves - Concave for hanging umbrella & etc. Lean and dream while waiting. 5) Perch - Serving as an active seat for commuter. 6) Foot rest - Rest foot while waiting.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in Nov 2013 and finished in May 2014 in Hong Kong.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Perch and shelves share the same piece of fixture, as top is a perch and bottom is a shelf . The design helps to save the cost on moulding.
