DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Roll it

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Sketch board

INSPIRATION:
The idea is inspired by the fact that designers usually roll sketch papers to fit them into their small bags!

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
"Roll it" is a solution for a common problem; Big sketch boards are not fitting in designers' stylish small bags! A series of poly-wood segments shaped by C.N.C are able to provide a reliable and flat sketch board on one side while user can roll it from another side easily. This ability helps designers have their big sketch board in their bag everywhere.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Visually it is easy to understand that ROLL IT can be rolled from one side while it can provide a flat surface for sketching. Users can roll the sketch board and put it into their bags while they do not need to carry big bags anymore.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
Jun 2013, 6 weeks, Tehran, IRAN

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The product is made of H.D color poly-wood. Poly-wood segments shaped by C.N.C are sticking to a piece of strong fabric by a special glue. This series of segments are able to provide a reliable and flat sketch board on one side while it can be rolled from another side.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
User observation has showed that users usually have problems to fit their sketch boards into their bags. Usually they ignore the sketch board, so they roll papers and put them into their bag without sketch board. This is where the idea began to become improved.

CHALLENGE:
The question was "How can a designer fit an A.4 sketch board in his half size bag?"
