PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Bookcase/Shelving System

INSPIRATION:
Motivation - The design of a simple, interesting and affordable shelving system for Massproduction.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
A simple structural system of only three components - vertical panel, shelf and connecting metallic element "X".

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Flexible modular shelving system - depending on the number of modules is used to choose the length and height of the assembly, system that let user create endles shelving unit. Total length and hight derive from number of rows and colums built by . Lenght is based upon odd numbers of colums starting by 3, following by 5, 7, 9 etc. Can be built to the wall or in space.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in April 2012 in Prague and finished in October 2012 in Prague, and was exhibited in Milan in April 2013 (Milan Design Week).

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Connecting metallic element "X" is produced ​​by NC laser cutting. The thickness of the metal element is an important factor in the rigidity of the shelving system.

PROFILE:
Jan Vacek & Martin Smid – KDOMAZIDLIBYDLI KDOMAZIDLIBYDLI - a.k.a. “My Chair, My Castle” - is multidisciplinary design studio based in Prague, Czech Republic, founded in 2011 by Jan Vacek and Martin Smid. Studio offers workmanship in product design such as furniture and related objects and interior design. Jan Vacek and Martin Smid design ideas were awarded with prestigeous Red Dot Design Award in 2013 in category product design for X-SYSTEM (bookcase - Jan Vacek) and with ELLE DECO INTERNATIONAL DESIGN AWARD in 2012, Czech national award in category furniture for WAVE (TV wall unit - Jan Vacek, Martin Smid). Studio regullary exhibits during local Czech and international design events such as Milan Design Week 2013 and Designblok 2012 and 2011 in Prague. Designers enjoy to work with non traditional materials, experiment and search for new ways. Designing new product allways means a story and thought process to them. Not only for its creativity and creative approach, but also for their construction and material knowledge gained during a wide range of projects they are able to design with a pragmatic and at the same time poetic approach with an emphasis on the function and on specific production technologies.
