DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Spot-Not -Glassware Dryer and Polisher

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Cleaning Wine Accessory

INSPIRATION:
Spot-Not was created out of necessity. Even though every household has some kind of glassware there is not a single tool that will allow to dry the insides of it.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Spot-Not is a unique kitchen device/ cleaning wine accessory that dries and prevents spots from forming on the outsides and more importantly the insides of water glasses, wine glasses, beer glasses, champagne flutes and any hard to dry glassware. Its flexible core fits inside any shape of glass and its removable absorbent sleeve dries and polishes perfectly. Spot-Not is the only gadget that will safely dry the insides of different shape stemware.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Spot-Not is the ONLY tool that dries the insides of glassware. Spot-Not has flexible fingers the tips of which has a number of cuts. Having multiple fingers allow this item to enter narrow as well as wide glasses. Cuts on the tips of the fingers allow the dryer to change shape in such way that it will round up on the bottom of a round glass and flatten out at the bottom of the flat bottom glass. The pointy shape of the fingers allows to reach every corner of such narrow glasses as a Champaign glasses. Removable and re-usable sleeve absorbs water and polishes the glass.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
Project was starter in April 2012 in Toronto and was completed in March 2013. The product was presented at the Chicago Housewares Show in March 2013

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
We had to experiment with different shapes and materials for the core part of the dryer. The fingers had to be hard enough to apply enough pressure in order to preform drying function but soft enough not to damage a glass. We stopped our choice on hardness of 80 shore. The shape of fingers and number/ size of cuts was really important to its function and ability to take different shapes,

CHALLENGE:
We had to create a new product that currently did not existed in the past and therefore had to start from zero. Main challenge was to create a product that will be simple in production and use but still functional. The main problem we had to solve - is how the dryer will change/ adjust its shape depending on a shape of a glass. This was solved by having multiple flexible fingers and by adding cuts to the tips of the fingers of the dryer.
