DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Claire de Lune Chandelier

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Lighting

INSPIRATION:
From a desire to purchase a chandelier in a modern style and modern material.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Decorative, lighting, sold flat-pack, packaged in a reusable carrier bag. This is an elegant lamp, sold flat-pack, with both consumer and seller in mind. A view to reducing carbon footprint while shipping. It is a modern take on an old iconic product. It is romantic, reminiscent of something from fairy tales, something from Eastern religion/philosophy all in one product.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
-

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
Once the lamp has been assembled, it gives a magical feeling to its space. In the transparent acrylic, there is a majestic "lightness", with a strong flair, a strong statment.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Lighting Products and Fixtures Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Laser cut acrylic

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The lamp in its original size measures 45 x 55 cm. The version shown here is the BIG version measuring 62 x 83 cm. Transparent electric cord with chrome light socket and ceiling canopy

TAGS:
It wa a difficult process dealing with processes and trade folk in a language that is not my own. Each process took me through at least 3 suppliers before find the right ones. I feel it is baroque, romantic and magical.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
This started in 2005, has been exhibited in over 17 trade fairs. Frankfurt, Germany; Paris, France; London UK; NY, USA; Cologne, Germany; Rimini , Italy amnong others.

CHALLENGE:
After looking in varius design and lighting stores for a chandelier, and not finding one that I liked, I set about to design one myself. After 6 months of not sleeping through the night, tweaking the design, the mechanics, researching the materials, and the processes of how it might be produced, I arrived at a prototype that I was finally satisfied with and took it to a trade show in Denmark. It was important to me that the packaging be as eco-friendly as possible. That the disposable of any waste material be eco-responsible.
