Interview with Eduardo Guizar Vukovich at Wednesday 18th of October 2023

FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
EGV: Since I was a child, I always had a penchant for art and visual communication. My mother always encouraged me to play with paints and clay. In my house there were always an abundance of books with illustrations and drawings.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
EGV: I am currently director of the Graphic Design program at the University of Monterrey. The number one program nationwide as a private design school.

FS: What is "design" for you?
EGV: It is the search for the best solution to a problem, its implementation and its improvement.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
EGV: It is the search for the best solution to a problem, its implementation and its improvement through innovation and creativity.

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
EGV: The flag of Japan. It represents the exit from a complex process for a nation. It is the perfect evolution of the previous flag (the empire) towards a dignified, minimalist and inspiring solution. The sun that was already born

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
EGV: A logotype

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
EGV: Screen

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
EGV: When I don't have that much time to give a design solution to a client.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
EGV: Semiotic a composition

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
EGV: Excitement, insertitude and hope

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
EGV: Happiness and fulfillment

FS: What makes a design successful?
EGV: Information

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
EGV: Target

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
EGV: The figure of the designer today, as a creator of solutions, is the basis of social development and consolidation towards a more sustainable future.

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
EGV: Technology, as it has done historically, is modifying everything in design. Virtual reality, work in digital media and the generation of design with artificial intelligence are the route to follow.

FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
EGV: Now I participate more as an organizer than as a designer. Beautifull numbers the Estefan Singmainster was the last exhibition I worked on with the university team.

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
EGV: Customer problems and the current environment are often great sources of inspiration.

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
EGV: maximalism monocromatic

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
EGV: Yes, my country has a large heritage of visual comunicación. many cultures has bine shared to de nex generations tons of ideas an examples. Same for me.

FS: How do you work with companies?
EGV: Whit clear rules, and real death lines.

FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
EGV: Of course designer the portfolio, but a digital one could be the way

FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
EGV: User centered design always. But some times Scrum can works well

FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
EGV: Bic pen, cell phone, a poster on may wall and my glasses

FS: Can you describe a day in your life?
EGV: Talks with students, talks with teachers, talks with strategic allies and reading about design.

FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
EGV: Goe for the AI, if you don take the train, the train will leaf without you

FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
EGV: It is a career with infinite current demand, the bad thing is that it usually has a short life as an employee of a studio. The path is independence.

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
EGV: Research, make sketches and generate proposals.

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
EGV: Open mind

FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
EGV: Pinterest, Instagram, Google, Adobe, Wakom tablet, an AI generators

FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
EGV: Start very early in the morning

FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
EGV: It totally depends on the type of project. A poster can take an afternoon or a week

FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
EGV: Why so expensive

FS: What was your most important job experience?
EGV: learn to say "No"

FS: Who are some of your clients?
EGV: In worked with Heineken, Impulse, Invercap, Coppel and Tele 5

FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
EGV: Disney's haunted house, for the mix of technology and art.

FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
EGV: Finish my PDH

FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
EGV: Always as a Team

FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
EGV: Top secret
