Dagmara Berent
FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
DB: My immersion in art and design, especially in the realm of garden design, is a fascinating journey driven by perpetual passion and a desire to create beauty. I have always dreamed of being a garden designer, reflecting my deep commitment to shaping unique, functional green spaces. Over the years, as I accumulated experience, my perspective on garden design evolved. Today, I see my work not only as an opportunity to express artistic ambitions but also as a chance to actively contribute to the restoration of our environment, damaged by humanity. The joy derived from planting trees and creating green areas is not just a professional challenge but also a noble purpose. While garden design was not always my sole dream, it has become my passion and life's purpose. I am delighted that through this work, I can not only fulfill my artistic aspirations but also actively contribute to the protection and regeneration of our beautiful natural environment. It is more than a job to me – it is a privilege and a commitment to future generations.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
DB: My design studio, The Aurea Garden, is not just a company for me; it is a lifelong passion to which I wholeheartedly dedicate myself. Despite its modest scale, this company embodies the essence of my life, and garden design is more than just a job – it is a means of self-expression. I collaborate with a comprehensive network of contractors and outstanding professionals who execute my projects both within Poland and abroad. With years of experience and practical knowledge, our team excels in handling even the most unconventional projects. Our specialization lies in creating gardens that not only harmonize seamlessly with existing architecture and surroundings but also reflect the preferences and personalities of their owners. I take pride in being the creative driving force behind our garden projects. Each endeavor is approached with dedication, aiming to deliver unique and original works for every client. My commitment has been recognized through numerous awards and collaborations with renowned Polish publications, where I actively share my knowledge with the broader community. Additionally, my innovative garden designs have been featured multiple times on television programs, allowing me to share my expertise with an even wider audience.

FS: What is "design" for you?
DB: Design, for me, transcends the mere act of creating aesthetically pleasing and functional spaces. It is a profound form of expression, a way to weave narratives and emotions into tangible forms. Design is the art of storytelling through shapes, colors, and textures, where every element serves a purpose. It's a holistic approach that considers not only visual appeal but also the user's experience, functionality, and the impact on the surrounding environment. In essence, design is a powerful language that allows me to communicate ideas, evoke feelings, and leave a lasting impression on those who interact with the spaces I create.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
DB: I most enjoy designing modern spaces. That's where I feel at my best. Modern design allows me to express my creativity and passion in the most contemporary way. I emphasize minimalist solutions, inhttps://www.facebook.com/novative forms, and the use of modern technologies. It is a fascinating challenge for me to create projects that not only reflect current trends but also meet the expectations of clients, shaping a harmonious and functional space.

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
DB: As a garden designer, my favorite area of work undoubtedly lies in the realm of small urban gardens. Although my portfolio often includes impressive projects of large gardens, it's the compact urban spaces that consistently capture my heart. What makes small gardens so fascinating? The answer lies in the intense design process that must be completed in a relatively short time, typically within a single year. In contrast to larger projects, where implementations are often divided into stages lasting for years, small gardens demand a designer's focus on every square inch of their space. Designing small urban gardens is a true challenge, presenting an opportunity for shaping a space in a way that even the tiniest detail holds significant importance. It's within these microscopic details that the power to change the atmosphere and perception of the garden resides. This is something that always motivates me to work on subsequent projects. While I take great pleasure in witnessing the development of larger gardens, these small urban corners consistently grab my attention. Each of them represents a unique space where design, plants, and functionality come together in harmony, creating a magical place for relaxation and enjoying nature in the heart of the city. Therefore, despite having extensive experience in designing diverse gardens, working on small urban gardens is always a special challenge for me. It intensifies my passion for garden design, making the process even more rewarding and satisfying.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
DB: My inaugural project for the company was a sprawling garden situated just beyond the city limits, covering approximately 3,500 m2. This endeavor also served as my engineering thesis during my university studies. Pouring immense effort and dedication into this project, I found great joy in witnessing the garden come to life according to my vision. This expansive outdoor space was conceptualized as a haven for the entire family, blending aesthetics, functionality, and harmony with the surrounding nature. The completed garden, faithfully constructed according to my design, not only affirmed my skills but marked a defining moment that solidified my conviction that landscape design is my true passion. In the meticulous process of crafting this green sanctuary, every element was carefully considered to create a timeless and inviting atmosphere. The realization of this project stands as a testament to the seamless integration of artistry and engineering in outdoor spaces. This inaugural venture remains a cherished milestone in my design journey, inspiring me to continue shaping landscapes that resonate with both clients and nature enthusiasts alike.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
DB: When it comes to my favorite materials in landscape design, concrete holds a special place in my heart. Its versatility allows me to shape and mold it into various forms, providing a robust foundation for both structural and artistic elements in my projects. Concrete, with its enduring strength, becomes a canvas upon which the vision of a harmonious outdoor space unfolds. Fiberglass, particularly in the form of reinforced fiberglass, is another cherished companion in my design endeavors. Its resilience in the face of diverse weather conditions ensures that the elements of my creations withstand the test of time. This durability combines seamlessly with its adaptability, allowing me to incorporate it into a spectrum of design elements with confidence. Wood, in the form of carefully selected and treated decking, is a perennial favorite of mine. Beyond its practicality and warmth, decking has the transformative power to soften the overall appearance of any garden. It acts as an invitation to connect with nature, providing a tactile and inviting surface that complements the organic beauty of the surroundings. A water feature is always a delightful addition to any garden project. The transformative effect of water on the microclimate is remarkable, introducing a soothing and refreshing ambiance. Designing gardens with water elements allows me to create spaces that not only visually captivate but also engage the senses, making every visit a sensorial experience. In my botanical pursuits, I am particularly drawn to plants that beckon pollinators, especially bees and butterflies. The integration of such flora not only enhances the ecological balance but also brings the garden to life with the vibrant hum of nature. For me, a garden is not just a static space but a living, breathing entity that evolves with the seasons and beckons the wonders of the natural world. In essence, my design philosophy revolves around creating outdoor spaces that not only endure the test of time but also resonate with life, inviting people to immerse themselves in the beauty and serenity of nature. Each material and element chosen is a stroke in the canvas of a living masterpiece, where form and function harmonize to craft landscapes that stand the test of both aesthetic and environmental considerations.

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
DB: My most profound moments of creativity unfold like a tapestry woven from the threads of my worldly adventures. The allure of exploration, the tapestry of diverse cultures, and the mosaic of landscapes have become my greatest muses. Frequent travels to the farthest corners of the globe act as a potent elixir for my creative spirit. Each journey, whether through bustling urban landscapes or serene natural wonders, is an immersive experience that fuels my imagination. The vibrant tapestry of colors, sounds, and textures encountered during these voyages becomes a rich reservoir of inspiration. Upon returning home from these expeditions, I find myself armed with a renewed sense of optimism and vitality. The amalgamation of global influences transforms into a wellspring of fresh ideas and innovative perspectives. It is in these moments of reconnection with my surroundings that I feel an overwhelming surge of creativity, ready to be translated into the canvas of my design projects. Every corner of the world, from the bustling markets of Marrakech to the serene landscapes of Kyoto, leaves an indelible mark on my creative consciousness. The unique architecture, indigenous flora, and the cultural tapestry of each destination become the palette with which I paint my visions. It is this kaleidoscope of global experiences that infuses a sense of wonder and uniqueness into every project I undertake. In essence, my creative zenith is reached when I merge the memories of my travels with the canvas of my designs. The synthesis of diverse cultural elements and the echo of distant landscapes breathe life into my creations, making each project a testament to the beauty found in global diversity. The journey becomes an integral part of the destination, with every design embodying the spirit of exploration and the boundless possibilities it brings.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
DB: In the realm of landscape design, my paramount focus lies on the dreams and aspirations of my clients. Each project becomes an intimate exploration into their desires, a journey to understand the essence of what they envision for their outdoor haven. It is this client-centric approach that transforms every garden into a unique masterpiece, a living testament to individuality and personal expression. The heart of my design philosophy pulsates with the commitment to bring my clients' dreams to life. Through careful listening and empathetic understanding, I delve into the intricacies of their vision, ensuring that every element of the design resonates with their aspirations. This tailored approach not only results in aesthetically pleasing spaces but also fosters a deep connection between the client and their outdoor sanctuary. Safety and ease of maintenance emerge as cornerstones in my design process. A garden, beyond its visual appeal, should be a secure and practical extension of the home. By seamlessly integrating these elements into the design, I aim to create spaces that not only captivate the senses but also offer a hassle-free and enjoyable experience for the homeowners. As I navigate the delicate balance between dreams and practicality, the realization that no two gardens should be alike becomes evident. The uniqueness of each project is a reflection of the client's personality, preferences, and lifestyle, ensuring that their outdoor space becomes an extension of their identity. In essence, my commitment to crafting extraordinary landscapes extends beyond the visual aesthetics. It encapsulates the art of understanding and embodying the dreams of those I serve, resulting in gardens that stand as living, breathing expressions of individuality, safety, and functionality. Each design is a testament to the harmonious marriage of dreams and reality, a fusion that transforms outdoor spaces into personalized sanctuaries.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
DB: In the kaleidoscopic world of landscape design, my emotions are akin to a symphony of excitement, passion, and boundless creativity. Each project unfolds as a captivating journey, a dynamic dance between imagination and reality that evokes a spectrum of feelings. The initial spark of excitement ignites when I embark on a new project. The canvas is blank, and the possibilities are endless. It is in these moments of creative inception that I feel an electrifying surge, an anticipation of the extraordinary waiting to take shape. As the design process unfolds, passion becomes the driving force. The interplay of colors, textures, and forms weaves a narrative that is both deeply personal and universally enchanting. It is the passion for creating outdoor sanctuaries that captivate the senses and stir the soul that propels me forward. Yet, within the intricate dance of creativity, challenges emerge. The endeavor to harmonize aesthetics, functionality, and the client's vision can be both invigorating and demanding. It is in navigating these challenges that a sense of accomplishment blossoms, transforming obstacles into stepping stones on the path to a truly remarkable design. The culmination of the design journey brings a profound sense of satisfaction. Witnessing the transformation of ideas into tangible, living landscapes evokes a unique blend of joy and fulfillment. In essence, my emotions during the design process are a tapestry of excitement, passion, and triumph. Each project is a dynamic and emotional odyssey, a testament to the boundless possibilities that unfold when creativity meets dedication. It is this emotional journey that infuses life into my designs, making each project a testament to the transformative power of landscape artistry.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
DB: The realization of my design visions is an enchanting journey, a tapestry of emotions that unfolds with the dawn of each day when I visit ongoing projects. Pride, ambition, and a meticulous attention to detail become the guiding stars during this exhilarating phase. From the first light of dawn, my heart swells with pride as I witness the transformation of blueprints into living, breathing landscapes. It is a daily symphony of awe and satisfaction as I walk through the evolving spaces, marveling at the seamless fusion of design and nature. My ambition takes center stage during this crucial period. In essence, the emotions I experience during the realization of my projects are a delicate symphony of pride, ambition, and joy. Each garden is not just a creation; it's a living testament to the harmonious collaboration between nature and design, a manifestation of the meticulous planning and unwavering dedication that breathes life into every corner.

FS: What makes a design successful?
DB: The success of a design is woven from the delicate threads of client care and meticulous attention to detail. It transcends the visual appeal, delving into the realm of understanding, connection, and the seamless completion of the envisioned garden. At the heart of a successful design lies an unwavering commitment to the client. It goes beyond merely creating aesthetically pleasing spaces; it involves the cultivation of a deep understanding of the client's aspirations. By keenly listening to their dreams and desires, a designer can weave a narrative that not only meets but exceeds expectations. Meticulous attention to every detail becomes the cornerstone of success. It's an intricate dance where each element, no matter how small, contributes to the grandeur of the overall design. A successful garden is a symphony of harmonious components, a testament to the designer's dedication to perfection. Building a connection with the client is an art in itself. The journey towards success doesn't conclude with the drafting of blueprints; it extends to the realization of the envisioned garden. Seeing the project through to completion is a testament to the designer's commitment and professionalism. It ensures that the designed space isn't just a concept on paper but a vibrant, living entity that enhances the client's quality of life. In essence, a successful design is a tapestry woven with threads of client understanding, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to see the vision through to fruition. It is the manifestation of a designer's ability to transform dreams into tangible, thriving landscapes, creating not just gardens but havens that stand as a testament to the artistry of the design process.

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
DB: The realm of design is undergoing a profound transformation, shaped by an ever-advancing wave of technological innovations. As we navigate the currents of change, the future of design is a horizon painted with increasingly sophisticated tools and an enhanced user experience. One of the pivotal facets defining this evolution is the continuous refinement of design software. Today's design programs stand as technological marvels, enabling designers to delve into unparalleled precision. The synergy between creativity and technology allows for more intricate and accurate project blueprints, paving the way for a new era of meticulous and visionary designs. The future of design lies in the fusion of creativity with artificial intelligence and machine learning. Design tools are evolving to not only assist in the creation process but to anticipate and adapt based on historical data and emerging trends. This synergy promises a more intuitive and responsive design experience, ensuring that each project is not just a static creation but a dynamic, living entity that evolves with the ever-changing landscape of design aesthetics. In essence, the trajectory of design's evolution is charted by the relentless pursuit of precision, realism, and technological integration. As we stand at the crossroads of artistry and innovation, the future promises a landscape where designs are not just conceived but experienced, where the boundaries between imagination and reality blur, and where the timeless art of design propels us into new realms of creativity and functionality.

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
DB: My wellspring of inspiration flows from the kaleidoscope of experiences woven through my travels. Journeying across the globe, exploring diverse landscapes, and immersing myself in the wonders of botanical gardens serve as the vibrant palette from which I draw my creative energies. One of my primary sources of inspiration lies in the awe-inspiring beauty of botanical gardens worldwide. These living tapestries of flora showcase the artistry of nature, each garden telling a unique story. Whether wandering through the lush foliage of the Amazonian jungle or traversing the arid expanses of the Australian desert, every environment becomes a source of profound inspiration. The magic of inspiration isn't confined to the grandeur of landscapes; it thrives in the subtleties. Sensitivity to the smallest details, from the delicate bloom of a flower to the symphony of scents in the air, opens the door to a world of creativity. It's the ability to find inspiration in the smallest nuances that transforms a design into a masterpiece. Venturing into the heart of the Amazonian jungle, I've witnessed the intricate dance of life, while traversing the Australian desert has revealed the resilience of nature in its stark beauty. These encounters with diverse ecosystems have become a rich tapestry of inspiration, influencing the way I conceptualize and craft outdoor spaces. In essence, my creative nourishment springs from the immersive experiences of my travels. The world, in all its botanical splendor, serves as both muse and mentor. It is through these journeys that I learn to translate the poetry of nature into tangible designs, ensuring that every project is not just a reflection of my creativity but a harmonious collaboration with the diverse landscapes that have left an indelible mark on my artistic soul.

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
DB: My design style is a harmony of nature and innovation, rooted in a deep understanding of the client and inspired by diverse ecosystems worldwide. It's a fusion of natural elements with a modern approach, crafting projects that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and aligned with each client's unique vision. My interest in this design style arises from a fascination with the richness of nature and the ability to integrate that abundance with modern solutions. I draw inspiration from travels, where every place, from mysterious jungles to raw deserts, leaves a trace in my imagination. The main features of my style include organicity, a sustainable approach to the environment, and an individualized approach to each project. I aim to have each project exude natural harmony while also considering the unique needs of the client. My approach to design involves a deep interaction with the client, based on empathy and understanding. I strive to learn about their dreams, lifestyle, and passions, enabling me to create personalized, functional spaces. I aspire to design a garden that not only reflects my creativity but, above all, meets the expectations and desires of the client. In my design style, I emphasize innovative solutions, both in terms of aesthetics and sustainable design. It's a blend of tradition with modernity that not only keeps up with contemporary trends but also shapes them, creating garden projects that are both beautiful and environmentally responsible.

FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
DB: My design process is a mystical journey where each stage is like a note in a score, composing the harmony of nature and client inspiration. Here are a few key steps that shed light on how my creative process unfolds. Getting to Know the Client: The first step is immersing myself fully in my client's world. Conversations, surveys, and visits to their living spaces help me understand their style, dreams, and unique needs. Travel-Inspired Ideas: My travels become a wellspring of inspiration. Notes, photos, and experiences from visited places shape the project's concept. Elements from distant landscapes influence my designs, adding a global dimension. Creative Conceptualization: Based on the gathered knowledge and inspiration, I formulate the project's concept. This is the stage where main elements, such as spatial layout, plant types, and dominant materials, emerge. Interactive Visualization: Utilizing advanced graphic tools, I create visualizations that transport the client into the virtual future of their garden. It's the moment when abstract concepts take on tangible form. Project Finalization: Consultations with the client lead to final adjustments and the selection of ultimate details. This is a co-creation process where the project becomes not only my vision but also an expression of the client's desires. Passionate Implementation: The process doesn't end on paper. Engaging in the implementation process, collaborating with craftsmen, and caring for every detail ensures that the project is born with passion and develops in line with the initial vision. This process, for me, is a continual journey of discovery, inspiration, and realizing clients' dreams, where each stage is crucial in crafting unique, sustainable gardens.

FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
DB: Certainly! To young, aspiring designers embarking on the exhilarating journey of creativity, I offer the following pearls of wisdom: Cultivate Curiosity: Embrace the spirit of perpetual curiosity. Allow your inquisitive nature to lead you on explorations, whether through travels, books, or various design disciplines. A curious mind is the fertile ground for innovation. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
DB: "Harmony in Diversity." This principle underscores the belief that a truly exceptional design emerges when diverse elements seamlessly coalesce into a unified and harmonious whole. It's about finding the delicate balance between contrasting components—be it in textures, colors, or spatial arrangements—to create an environment that is not only visually appealing but also evokes a sense of unity and coherence. This rule extends beyond aesthetics; it reflects a commitment to consider the diverse needs, preferences, and functionality within a space. Whether blending natural and man-made elements or integrating traditional and modern concepts, the pursuit of harmony in diversity guides every decision, fostering a design that transcends the sum of its parts. In essence, "Harmony in Diversity" serves as my North Star, guiding the creative process and ensuring that each design resonates with a balance that captivates both the eye and the soul.
