| DESIGN NAME: Squirrel Ring PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring INSPIRATION: The Squirrel Ring is inspired from one of my favorite spirit animals that are playful, fun, happy & innocent. They encourage one to inject more fun and laughter, and just enjoy the wonders of the world. The ring has been designed with the same feeling, showing a squirrel happily enjoying its surroundings while munching on a wild berry. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Squirrel Ring has a unique color combination, i.e. brown, magenta and green, of Cognac Diamonds, Tsavourite Garnets & Pink Tourmaline. The squirrel's anatomy has been nicely perfected as closely as possible to reality. It is a very vibrant and happy ring. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The ring is easy to wear, it can be comfortably placed in any finger, preferably middle finger or index finger for a style statement, the diamonds at the bottom of the ring make sure a comfortable feeling for the wearer. The Tsavourite Garnets are set in jump rings to provide movement to the piece!. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: I was inspired by a beautiful squirrel in October 2021. The design concept started in February 2022 in Chandigarh, India. The production began in March 2022 in Jaipur, India and was completed in July 2022. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: A sketch was handrendered from the inspiration, finalising all the colors and shapes of the stone and anatomy. CAD was prepared to determine the final shape & angles of the earrings and the exact weights of the gemstones and gold to be used. A wax model was then casted to finalise everything before the ring was casted in 18K Gold. The ring was then handcrafted with each stone being set and filled by hand. The piece was then sent for polishing and final quality checks. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Height 7 cm Length X Breadth 5 x 5 cm TAGS: Squirrel, Tourmlaine, Tsavourite Garnets, Diamonds, Sapphires, Inspired, Bespoke, Bold, Fun, Playful RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I went through multiple images of the squirrel and tried to take a closer look at the real life animal to research and understand the anatomy and movement of the squirrel. I think it is very important to get the anatomy right, else the piece looks animated. CHALLENGE: The squirrel is a very playful animal, it doesn’t stay at a particular place for long, hence it was tough to take a proper look at the fast paced squirrel. It is indeed a free spirited animal. It also has a wide variety of food preferences, hence selecting the exact wild berry to be used in the ring was also a task. Designing the squirrel’s anatomy fit for a ring was a complicated task which later had to be combined with the exact colorful gemstones to make it look most realistic yet luxurious.
