| DESIGN NAME: Yale Smart Indoor Camera PRIMARY FUNCTION: Indoor Surveillance Camera INSPIRATION: The Indoor Camera is easy to install and use and can integrate with other Yale smart products to create a home security system. This is highlighted through features such as privacy mode, which will turn your camera off when you arrive home for added convenience when connected to a Smart Alarm. The smart camera aims to reduce trigger notifications sent to users thanks to built-in AI capabilities, to provide up-to-date information and live feed of your home for peace of mind. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Designed to embody simplicity, from the bespoke clean lines of Yale product design to the intuitive smart features, the camera will suit all home styles to discreetly watch over your interior and help you keep a close eye on your home. Its integrated cable management system ensures a clean look for wall mounting. The head of the camera can be flexibly moved in all directions to ensure a maximum field of view. Built-in AI features, such as human detection, allow for smarter monitoring. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Indoor Camera provides smarter monitoring for your home's interior. It can be easily connected directly to the Internet, this allows the device to be operated from anywhere in the world with a single application, the Yale Home app, on your mobile phone. It can detect and notify users if any humans have been seen, and built-in AI features will reduce the number of unwanted notifications from pets or robot vacuums which may frequently trigger the camera's sensors. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2022 in Malmö, Sweden. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We wanted a discrete and elegant design that provided a premium look and feel to the hardware. Through design thinking methodology we perfected this sleek, unobtrusive form, ensuring it complements any décor style, achieving the perfect balance of aesthetics and functionality. Our material selection emphasized a premium surface for a soft feel, both to the eye and touch. User-centric design principles informed the development ensuring that this design fits with our other products. Intelligent features • Motion Detection • Detection Zone • Privacy Zone • Human Detection • Pet Detection* Video storage options • Built in local storage on flash memory • 30-day Cloud Recording* Product dimensions (W x D x H): 70mm x 70mm x 115mm (excluding mounting plate) TAGS: smart camera, surveillance, smart home, smart security, app control, live-view, motion detection RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We interviewed all the market regions to understand what features were most important to them in a smart camera, and to determine how competition looked in their region using market research, surveys, and interviews. We tested and evaluated a lot of competitive devices to understand the areas we saw a need for improvement on, like the mounting solution and cable management, to perfect these shortcomings within our own device. CHALLENGE: We felt that one of the most important aspects of the design for our indoor camera was to find a good answer for cable management that was part of the mounting solution. To test out our various design iterations we had a fake wall where we stress-tested and mounted the various solutions until we settled on a design we were happy with and felt worked best from a customer experience perspective.
